Portable vaporizers are one of the most popular cannabis related items on the market. They are small, convenient, can usually hold several hits worth of plant matter or concentrate and have a long battery life. Some allow you to set the temperature of the convection so that you can release some cannabis compounds rather than others, depending on your needs. Changing the temperature also allows you to adjust for the dryness of the plant matter, higher temps for fresh, moist plant or lower temp for drier plants. The temperature adjustment also allows you to vaporize concentrate, which vaporizes at a much higher temperature than plant matter.
Tabletop vaporizers are some of the oldest and most dependable devices within the category. They are meant to stay on a table or counter, usually have an internal fan that pulls the air through the plant matter or concentrate and produces more vapor than any other type of vaporizer. Similar to the portable vaporizer, tabletop vapes allow you to very precisely control the temperature of the heat they generate and allows for burning of plant and concentrate cannabis material. They usually cool the vapor by capturing the vapor in a bag or by going through an internal cooling mechanism. Of all of the vaporizers they give the smoothest hits and are great for people who have a higher tolerance for cannabis because they produce so much vapor.
Exotics are a designation for the less well known ways to consume cannabis in plant form. They range from a very traditional smoking apparatus, like a hookah to a gravity bong, which become more of a party game than a typical smoking or vaping session. There are also low-tech devices like a dugout, which combines a way to transport a small amount of ground up cannabis and the device to smoke it with. These low-tech items are very easy to find at a dispensary or head shop, they are cheap, durable and covert. Many long time cannabis users have at least one dugout type device.
With the proliferation of dispensaries, people are starting to shift away from smoking combustibles towards other healthier options such as vaporizers and edibles. In the case of vaporizers, just like smoking a joint, the cannabinoids are inhaled so they enter the bloodstream right away and effects are felt nearly immediately. But unlike a joint, only the cannabinoid-rich oil is vaporized excluding other harmful toxins.
While some complain that vaporizer hits are less potent, delivering a weaker high, many love the discreet nature of a portable vaporizer or the consistently clean toke from a tabletop vaporizer.
The tide is turning. A majority of Americans think cannabis should be legal and our laws, state by state, are starting to accomplish this. But millions are still denied access, or languish in prisons, due to antiquated laws that hurt rather than help us.
